Limousin – Creuse

Situated in the heart of the Creuse countryside in the Limousin region of France is this glorious 16th century chateau with 135 hectare country estate and the film location for the famous French movie “ Tous les matins du monde”

The photos of this property serve no justice as externally it’s a very difficult chateau to photo nestled in the middle of a small valley with rolling hills, lakes, streams and forest it makes this a very private and magical location.

On arrival to the chateau you are greeted by the gate house and bell tower, many years ago this would have had a moat around but now has been grassed, the original bell is still in place and walking up the gate house tower the original archer’s positions and galleries are still in situe. Once entry has been gained through the gate the chateau stands in front of you with a large courtyard surrounded by barns, stables, workshops, pond, caretakers cottage, walled vegetable garden and orchard a real feeling of grandeur, that thought of who might of walked on these grounds before me.

The chateau itself is in very good condition with many original features remaining, a little tired in places and a little refreshment required, the photos again serve no justice as the property is vacant and currently has no furniture in, but its when you actually stand in the presence of this property you feel the warmth and how this property used to operate with all its quirky little servant runs and corridors behind scenes.

Starting with the cellar this is split into two very large vaulted wine cellars carved into the granite stone foundations, and current housing much of the new central heating pipe work and electrics, on the ground floor are 4 extremely large living rooms, as they are not furnished very hard to define there uses but defiantly a large formal dinning room, library, ladies room and lounge, with a kitchen with large granite open fireplace. Upstairs all in panelled and carved wood are bedrooms all with fireplaces, most of the bedrooms are interlinked, there is also a huge music room as feature in the movie with an amazing balcony overlooking the valley, this would just make the most stunning master bedroom. Going upstairs to the 2nd floor you are welcomed by a cathedral size attic spanning the complete chateau, this could be used for many options cinema room, more bedrooms, conference facilities.

As already stated the chateau sits on a country estate of 135 hectares of land, with farms currently working a lot of the land, the farms are rented out generating an income for the chateau, there are also 2 lakes one of 1.8 hectares and another of 8 hectares, the smaller lake apparently holds an abundance of fish with pike up to 1.5 metres in length, the 2nd lake sits right on the limits of the property and can really only be used for looking at as it has no surrounding access apart from a public right of way.

This property is a must to visit and experience for yourself the true magic it has to offer.
