Stunning historic 12th century Chateau situated close to a very typical French village in the
Haute Vienne Department of the Limousin Region of France, former owners since 1539 include Marquis Lignaud and the famous French author Bertrand De Cressac, with the library situated above the chapel in the tower still full of his original works and manuscripts.
Entry to the property is gained via two completely separate driveways with large iron gates and both arrive at the moat surrounding this chateau.
Over the beautiful moat stocked with carp is a large sculptured stone archway with iron gates and a round driveway leading to the front doors and chapel. With its unusual design of two towers one square and one round in the round tower is a magnificent private chapel still in its original condition.
On entering the front doors of the chateau it comprises of the following;
The ground floor large lounge, huge dining room, large kitchen which has the original 12th century tiled floors, small kitchen, conservatory, laundry room, boiler room and toilet.
The first floor accessed by 2 staircases consists of a living room, library, 7 bedrooms, bathroom and toilet.
The second floor accessed by 2 staircases consists of, 9 bedrooms, shower room and toilet.
The third floor accessed by 2 staircases consists of 1 bedroom and a lot of attic space.
All the main rooms and bedrooms have original marble fireplaces although some have had inserts but it would not be difficult to open these up again as open fireplaces. The property is habitable, and could be lived in comfortably but is in need of a lot of TLC to restore to its former glory, the finished product would be stunning as well as bring a very historic building back to life, perfect location for an upmarket bed & breakfast or possibly a small boutique style hotel, or just a private residence for someone with a passion for beautiful buildings and history.
Outside is the chateau completely surrounded by its moat a long driveway and approx 4 hectares of woodland, there is a possibility in the future more grazing land could be made available for purchase along with some other properties which original would have been part of the estate of the Marquis Lignaud.
The chateau has a new roof of 10 years old, and in the past permissions have been granted to operate as a business for functions, weddings and guest house, hotel the local authorities are very pro active for tourist projects in this region.
